A good wand can make pleasure feel easy: broad, steady sensation you can simply relax into. Wand vibrators have a large, rounded head on a long handle, and they give broad, deep vibration that many people find easier to enjoy than a small, pointed toy. Two brands dominate the category: Magic Wand, the classic that defined it, and Le Wand, the cordless favorite that brought the format up to date.

Both are strong, both are popular and both make a good first wand. This guide explains how they differ and which model in each range suits which person.

The Short Answer

  • Choose Magic Wand if you want proven power, a long track record and the lowest-cost route to a full-size wand, and you are happy with a cord. The rechargeable model removes the cord if you want the same feel without it.
  • Choose Le Wand if you want cordless from the start, a soft silicone head, more size options and a range of attachments made by the same brand.
  • Not sure? A cordless wand from either brand covers most needs. If you share walls or travel, look at the smaller sizes first.

A Little History

The Magic Wand began as a plug-in body massager in the late 1960s, sold for decades under the Hitachi name before being renamed the Magic Wand Original. It became the reference point for the whole category, and people still use its name as shorthand for any wand.

Le Wand arrived much later with a different brief: a premium, rechargeable wand with a silicone head and a more modern look. It has since grown into a full range of sizes, corded and cordless versions, attachments and smaller vibrators.

Prices for both start from wand vibrators (from $20.00), with the full-size cordless models at the higher end of each range.

The Classics, Side by Side

The Magic Wand Original plugs into the wall and has a couple of simple settings. It is heavy, strong and never fades as a battery drains. Its simplicity is the appeal: there is nothing to charge, pair or learn.

The Le Wand Classique is Le Wand’s original full-size wand. It is cordless and rechargeable, with a soft silicone head and the low, rumbly vibration the brand is known for. It feels more modern in the hand and is easier to use away from a wall socket.

Going Cordless

If you like the idea of the Magic Wand but not the cord, the Magic Wand Rechargeable keeps the familiar shape and feel and runs on a battery. It is still a large wand, better suited to home than to travel.

Le Wand’s full-size and petite wands are cordless by default. If cordless is your priority, Le Wand gives you more sizes to choose from.

Smaller Wands

Full-size wands are big. If you want a wand you can store easily or take on a trip, both brands make smaller versions.

  • Le Wand Petite is a scaled-down wand with much of the same character, and there are petite attachments to match.
  • Magic Wand Mini and Magic Wand Micro are compact rechargeable versions of the classic shape.
  • Le Wand Mini Vibe models are smaller still, closer to a bullet with a wand-like head.

Smaller wands are usually less powerful than full-size ones, but many people find a petite wand strong enough for everyday use. See all discreet sex toys for more compact options.

Corded Models

A corded wand trades freedom of movement for a motor that never runs down. The Magic Wand Plus is a corded model with more settings than the Original. Le Wand also makes corded versions of its wands, including a petite plug-in.

Choose corded if you mostly use your wand at home in one place and want reliable, steady power. Never use a corded wand in or near water.

Attachments

Attachments let a wand do more: a curved attachment for G-spot stimulation, a textured cap for different sensations, or a sleeve for penis play.

Le Wand makes its own range of weighted and textured silicone attachments for its full-size and petite wands, so fit is straightforward when you match the size. The Magic Wand Original has been around long enough that many third-party attachments are made for its head. Check that any attachment is made from body-safe silicone and is sized for your specific model.

Noise

Wands are not silent. Low, rumbly motors tend to be less intrusive than high, buzzy ones, and lower settings are much quieter. Corded wands can be noticeable at full power. If noise matters, choose a smaller wand, use it under a blanket, and see our collection of quiet vibrators.

How to Use a Wand

  1. Start on the lowest setting, over underwear if it feels too strong.
  2. Use the flat of the head for broad pressure, or the edge for more focus.
  3. Move slowly and try small changes in angle.
  4. Add a little lube if using it directly on the skin.
  5. Increase power gradually. More is not always better.

Wands also make good partners during sex and foreplay. See how to use sex toys with a partner.

Care and Lube

Wipe or wash the head with warm water and mild soap or a toy cleaner after each use, and let it dry before storing. Do not submerge any wand unless the listing says it is waterproof, and never submerge a corded one. Use a water-based lube, which is safe with silicone heads. Our guide on how to clean sex toys covers the details.

Frequently Asked.

Is Le Wand or Magic Wand more powerful?

Is the Magic Wand the same as the Hitachi Magic Wand?
Yes. The Magic Wand Original is the same wand that was long sold under the Hitachi name.
Do Le Wand attachments fit the Magic Wand?
Le Wand attachments are designed for Le Wand’s own wands. Look for attachments made specifically for your Magic Wand model.
Can I use a wand in the shower?
Never use a corded wand in or near water. For cordless models, check the listing for water resistance before getting it wet.
Which wand is best for beginners?
A cordless petite or full-size wand used on its lowest setting. Wands can be strong, so start low and go slowly.
